Did you know cruise ships can only go as fast as 34 miles per hour? Doesn’t this make you wonder how you make destination to destination in just one 24-hour day while going that slow at maximum speed?
That fact has always fascinated me, especially since I have been on two separate cruises in my life. My first cruise was a Hawaiian cruise when I was ten, so I do not remember much. One thing I do remember though was walking down a hallway and watching my pop try to walk in a straight line. He did anything but walk straight, swaying from the right side of the wall to the left side without even noticing. You would think seasickness would kick in if the ship was rocking that much, but I didn’t feel a thing!
My second cruise this past year has recently took my seasickness virginity. This cruise was an eight night eastern Caribbean cruise to Fort Lauderdale, Puerto Rico, Saint Marten, and Saint Thomas. As an independent twenty-year-old, this was just now my first time traveling without my family. Nevertheless, my anxiety and nerves were high. I went with my boyfriend’s family who, may I add, were all boy except his mom. I had my own room with my boyfriend, as well as our own freedom to do whatever excursions or activities we wanted.
Being on a new island and a cruise ship with activities, I was of course exploring.

Some excursions I did was parasailing, ziplining, and jet-blasting. I think the most interesting was jet-blasting. This is when an airport runway is on the other side of the road from the beach. When you see a plane about to depart, you stand along the fence and during departure, the engine blows your body. Watch this video to get a better understanding! https://www.youtube.com/.

This is not offered at many places because it could be as severe as death. My mom was NOT happy to hear about that!
Although there were amazing places and things to see on land, there was also great entertainment on the ship. In order to end the afternoon, the correct way, I would enjoy a strawberry daiquiri in the pool and then get cleaned up and fancy for dinner and the long night ahead. Depending on the cruise schedule, there were some nights with comedian shows or some relaxing nights at the piano bar. One thing I miss was the large selection of food and the endless amount being offered. Although the scale wasn’t very happy with me when I returned home, it was SO worth it.
